Is this real leather, and is the metallic finish durable?

What are the pros and cons of pebbled metallic leather?
Pebbled (Dollaro) metallic calf combines a refined, light-catching look with everyday durability.
Pros: the texture hides small scuffs, feels substantial, and the metallic finish is even and color-stable across panels.
Trade-offs: it’s a soft, relaxed finish rather than a stiff, glassy one, and the sheen is a pebbled shimmer, not a mirror gloss.

How thin is this leather?
It’s a light calf leather, about 1.3–1.5 mm thick (≈0.05–0.06 in) — chosen so the bag stays soft and drapey while staying durable.
Despite the lighter gauge, the hide is strong; the Dollaro embossing and metallic finish hide scuffs and help the surface age gracefully.
Why chrome tanning instead of vegetable tanning?
Chrome-tanned calf is soft, flexible and color-stable straight from the tannery — ideal for a drapey, packable tote and for holding an even metallic finish. Veg-tan is firmer, reacts more to water and sun, and needs more breaking-in and care.
Care: wipe with a damp cloth; condition sparingly with a neutral product if needed.
Why does my leather tote smell?
A mild tannery/leather note is normal — it comes from genuine calf hide and the tanning process and signals real leather, not a defect. Chrome-tanned hide has a slightly cleaner, more technical note than veg-tan; it fades with airing.
Quick fix: air the bag in a ventilated room (no heat/sun) with an odor absorber (charcoal sachet or open baking soda) nearby for 48–72h.
Will the creases or folds in my bag go away?
Temporary creases from packing or folding are normal in soft calf leather — a sign of supple hide, not a defect — and the leather relaxes and softens with use.
Quick fix: unstuff the bag and let it hang upright for a few days, smoothing the panels with clean hands (no heat or ironing). With regular use the folds keep easing out on their own.
Why does this tote have no lining?
It’s intentionally unlined — the interior is the suede-like reverse of the calf hide, as shown in the photos and bullets. Unlined construction feels more tactile and luxurious, keeps the bag light and flexible, and highlights the leather itself.

Is it normal to find small flakes inside my bag?
In a small share of pieces, panels cut from softer belly areas can shed tiny surface flakes — a natural trait of that part of the hide and the trade-off for extra suppleness.
Quick fix: lightly brush the interior once with a medium-stiff brush, then lift debris with a lint roller or low vacuum and finish with a dry cloth. Avoid harsh solvents or aggressive scrubbing.
Why are there numbers or small marks inside my bag?
These are factory/hide/lot or inspector marks from cutting and quality control — they commonly appear near seams or panel edges and are a normal part of working with real hides.
They’re harmless and don’t affect look or durability; avoid aggressive rubbing, which won’t safely remove most stamps.
What about raw or unfinished edges along the seams?
Visible leather edges along the stitch lines are an intentional, handcrafted design choice — they show the real hide, not a fault.
Quick fix: trim a few loose fibers close to the edge with sharp scissors (don’t cut stitches). Heavy fraying or loose panels would be a defect — then return or exchange within 30 days.
Why does the metallic color look different from the photos?
Metallic leather catches the light, so the same finish can look brighter or warmer in sunshine and a little cooler under indoor or screen light — more than a matte color would. The shade you see in hand is the real bag, not a defect.
One note: Platinum in particular reads as a soft champagne, sometimes with a subtle green sheen, depending on the light. Gold is gold and Bronze is bronze — the lighting just changes how bright they look. If a shade truly isn’t right for you, an exchange within 30 days is easy.
Why doesn’t my tote hold its shape or stand upright?
